Review: Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union

We spent the only night of our winter 2018 Seattle trip at Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union. The best feature of this hotel is its location by the lake.

There are more than 40 Marriott properties in Seattle and nearby cities. Prices on weekends before Christmas were very affordable. Some premium hotels like W had rates under $150 USD before taxes. Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union had the lowest rate near the downtown area, and thus it was my top choice. The rate was $87 USD plus taxes.

The hotel is located at the southwest corner of Lake Union. Although we didn’t get a room with a view, it is still way better than the hotels next to a busy interstate highway.

The Room

The entrance and the lobby were under renovation during our stay. It is probably finished by now and looked pretty nice per the photo on their website.

The room I booked came with a king bed and a sofa bed. Its size ranges from 299 to 338 sqfts, which was just enough for three of us.

This time, I was the one who slept on the sofa bed. While we were opening up the sofa bed, we noticed it wasn’t 100% clean with a little bit of dirty stuff. Sleeping on a sofabed was manageable, but I rather sleet with a duvet instead of a blanket. It was another lesson learned, and I will choose rooms with two beds when possible.

The bathroom was quite spacious for some reason. It is quite wide between the sink and the tub.

Courtyard is one of the many Marriott brands that doesn’t offer complimentary breakfast. Even though the breakfast offerings are usually pretty bad, it is still better than nothing. The hotel also has a fitness center and a business center.

Our stay at Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union was just OK. My friend who drove didn’t sleep well because some hotel guests spoke loudly in the hallway. It wasn’t totally the hotel’s fault, but they should have more effective sound barriers for each room. On the other hand, I love the location by the lake. It was a pleasure to have a short walk at the Lake Union Park in the morning.
