[Vancouver Food] Dinner @ Water Street Café

Water Street Café was the first of the two restaurants I went to for the Dine Out Vancouver 2019 event. It offered a $35 menu, which was an exceptional price for a restaurant like this!

The Food

The restaurant serves Canadian (or Pacific Northwest) cuisine with an Italian influence. They offer several pasta dishes along with other Pacific Northwest offerings.

I started my meal with a cocktail which was outside of the Dine Out Vancouver menu. I didn’t write down the name of it and couldn’t locate it on their website. It had a tropical flavour due to the pineapple juice. The price was $8.

For the appetizers, we had a choice of chef’s salad, daily soup, or burrata caprese. I chose the salad because of its long list of ingredients: chevre, farro, orange, fennel, candied walnuts, olives, red onions, hard boiled egg, roasted beets, roasted bell pepper, Tuscany mixed greens, and honey lemon oil vinaigrette.

The salad completely exceeded my expectation. It had a good combination of root veggies, leafy greens, and grains. I am not a big fan of salad, but this dish blew me away.

As a member of Aeroplan, one of Dine Out Vancouver’s sponsors, we received an amuse-bouche for free. What we got was scallops with a few different sauces. I couldn’t tell what those sauces were made of, but I tried them all with my scallop.

My main course was butternut squash ravioli. I added prawns for $4 more, and surprisingly they gave me four. It wasn’t the most impressive choice, but this was what I wanted that night. It tasted great and reminded me of the trip to Italy last summer.

My sister ordered the steak for $10 more. It was massive 16 oz steak, and we didn’t realize that when we read the menu. I had to help her to finish it.

Lastly, I had a fruit sorbet to conclude my dinner. The raspberry one was very rich in flavour. I finished it all even though I was super full after helping my sister. It was the perfect ending!

Conclusion

It was a great Dine Out Vancouver experience. I never know that a restaurant that offers a $35 Dine Out menu has this kind of quality. I highly recommend everyone to try it out next year!
