Western Lake Chinese Seafood Restaurant is one of the few decent Chinese restaurants with a high rating in Vancouver. We came here for dim sum and were overhelmed by the portion!
Shiu Mai is the most iconic dim sum, and I always order it when I try out new restaurants. The steamed Shiu-Mai dumplings here were super large. The four dumplings occupied the entire space of the steamer.
The steamed scallops with prawn dumplings were also huge.
The steamed bean curd wraps were my least favourite dish. They were filled with fish paste instead of meat and veggies which I found quite odd.
Other dishes that we order fairly often are the steamed rice flour rolls and steamed chicken feet.
Stir-Fried Radish Cake in Spicy XO Sauce is one of the kitchen specialties that are bigger in portion. Normally we don’t order radish cakes in restaurants because we often have them at home. It turned out to be a solid choice because the cakes were more crispy and tasted great with the sauce.
Deep fried yam balls were another highlight of this meal. They are not as common as other dim sum dishes, and we couldn’t say no to any desserts made of yam.
Western Lake Chinese Seafood Restaurant has a rating of 4.2 on Google Map, which is higher than many other Chinese restaurants in the region. I think this is because that their dim sum and their dinner options are all well-received. It is the best restaurant for dim sum with large portions. I will need to find a chance to try their king crab dinner!
