Review: Fairfield Inn & Suites Kelowna

We spent our first night in Kelowna at Fairfield Inn & Suites Kelowna, one of the two only Marriott property in the downtown area. It is also my first ever free stay after I started paying attention to reward programs!

I booked a night at this hotel with the free 1-night category 1-4 e-certificate I earned during my spring Seattle trip. This hotel is a Category 4 property at the time of our stay, and normally it costs 25,000 Marriot Bonvoy points a night. The cash price was about $180 CAD plus taxes. It may not be the best use of the e-certificate, but a saving of about $200 was still nice.

The hotel is located inland on Okanagan Highway. It is the main east-west road of the city with many hotels and shopping malls along the way. Our hotel for the next day, Comfort Suites Kelowna, is a few blocks away.

The Lobby

Fairfield Inn is not a full-service hotel brand, so I didn’t expect to see a lot of decoration or design. But, I have to say that their main lobby looked nice and cozy with chairs, sofas, and a TV.

There were also chairs at the elevator lobby.

The Room

The room we got was a Large Guest Room with 2 Queen beds. It is bookable with reward points and can accommodate 5 people. I don’t know the actual size of the room, but it was quite spacious.

You can see how wide the gap is between the beds and the desk. The bathroom is behind the closet near the entrance.

For some reason, I didn’t take a photo of the sink.

The hotel has a small pool, a hot tub, and a water slide, all of which are outdoor. Many people were still using the pool and the hot tub when it was a bit chilly in the evening. I wanted to use the hot tub but eventually gave up because of the crowds.

The hotel offers free breakfast for all guests. I didn’t bother taking photos because it was below my expectation. In the end, we continued our breakfast at Bliss Bakery in downtown Kelowna.

My overall experience at Fairfield Inn & Suites Kelowna was favourable, mostly due to the spacious room. The waterslide was great for families with small kids. The only catch is not to put high expectation on the free breakfast.
