I started my dinner with the local sparkling wine. Apparently, it was Vienna‘s best brut called Dr. Georg Wailand.
My main dish was Viennese boiled beef in the pot. Called locally as Tafelspitz, it is one of the iconic Viennese dishes besides schnitzels and desserts. It also came with chive sauce, apple horseradish and browned potatoes.
The soup was clear but rich in flavour. It reminded me of the clear beef soup of Taiwan. The beef was tender and already good on its own. At that time, I didn’t know what the sauces were for, so I hardly had any. Now I know that the sauces are for the beef, but I think it is not necessary.
One of my friends had chicken schnitzel. There were two large pieces. They looked very delicious!
Another friend ordered roasted calf’s liver with browned potatoes. I was very surprised that Austrians eat calf’s livers, kidneys, and other organs. He said the taste was alright.
Figlmüller Bäckerstraße has a 4.4 out of 5 rating on Google Map with more than 6,500 reviews. Our tour guide also mentioned this restaurant during our city tour. I was glad that I came with my friends and had a good time. I would love to come again and try their schnitzels!
