Congee Noodle House is one of the restaurants we discovered in my first few years living in Vancouver. It had become one of my favourite Chinese restaurants at that time. I visited this place again with my family in February 2018 after many years of absence and the food was still great!
We started off with House Special Seafood Congee. A hot bowl of congee is a must-have of this restaurant. All the congees on the menu are the same except for the “toppings.” In our seafood congee, they put a few pieces of white fish, shrimp, squid, and scallops. The congee had been cooked for hours and the rice had melted. It was the perfect starter in a cold winter day!
The next dish was 3 kinds of BBQ meat with rice. The meat here included BBQ pork, roast pork, and soy chicken. We didn’t have BBQ meat for a while, and thus everything on this plate was super delicious.
The next dish, beef brisket and stomach with lettuce, was my parents’ favourite. The beef brisket and stomach were slowly stewed for hours until they became soft and tender. This dish would be even better if beef tendon was included.
Last but not least, we had this fried rice noodle. It was as good as always. The catch on ordering a noodle plate is that sometimes, the dish comes with crispy noodles, not soft noodles. I personally can’t handle crispy noodles as it is super difficult to mix everything things together and soften the noodles. Remember to always confirm the type of noodles with the server.
The restaurant is located near the intersection of Broadway and Main St in Vancouver. It is too far away from my house, and thus I can’t have it often. I will for sure come again when I miss tasty Chinese food.
