From Bellingham to Burington, instead of going straight on I-5, we took the scenic Chuckanut Drive which follows closely the coast of Puget Sound. It was still cloudy, but the views were still great.
What we did
The north end of Chuckanut Drive is Fairhaven, so it is natural to continue the drive down Chuckanut Drive. The beautiful coastal scene started after a few minutes of driving, and it continued for half-an-hour. I drove slowly so that I could also enjoy it while driving. There are many places on the side of the drive to stop a bit, have the fresh air, and take a closer look at the sea. We stopped frequently and tried to capture the best scene, but all my pictures look gloomy due to the weather.
One of the destinations on the drive is Larrabee State Park. We didn’t know how the state parks in US work, so we just continued the drive after seeing that $10 payment was required. The other place to stop is Taylor Shellfish Farms, and I highly recommend it. I will cover this place in my next blog post.
The weather wasn’t nice that morning, so I probably didn’t see the best views of Puget Sound yet. I need to do the drive again in the summer or the fall and see how gorgeous it actually is!
