Our second destination of Day 2 was Mahukona Beach Park. It is one of the three parks on the northwest coast of Big Island.
It isn’t a beach, but an abandoned harbor run by Kohala Sugar Company. It is an unusual snorkeling spot with a shipwreck and remnants of old sugar mill under the water.
What we did
We didn’t go into the water this time. We weren’t too comfortable concrete shore, and the current looked a bit stronger. We got some scratches from snorkeling at Hapuna Beach State Park and hadn’t put on any bandages. Thus, we stopped for 10 minutes and moved on to Kapa’a Beach Park.
It would be an interesting place to snorkel. I will need more experience before I go into the water. I will also need to be prepared with towels and other goods as there aren’t any amenities.
